    The Institute of Physical Chemistry actively participates in the establishment of the European Photocatalysis Federation and the coordination of the corresponding research activities in Greece.

     

     

    The 6th Summer School on Methods in Micro-Nanotechnology and Nanobiotechnology will be held in Athens, Greece September 13 - 17, 2010.  

    The Summer School is co-organized by the Institutes of Physical Chemistry, Microelectronics,  Radioisotopes & Radiodiagnostic Products and Materials Science,  NCSR Demokritos, in collaboration with the Foundation for Biomedical Research of the Academy of Athens.

    The Summer School  is co-sponsored by the project, Marie Curie ITN CYCLON  ( http://www.itn-cyclon.eu )  coordinated by the  Institute of Physical Chemistry.

    Research Director, NCSR “Demokritos”, INN, Laboratory of Functional Nanomaterials of Organized Structure, 15310 Aghia Paraskevi, Attiki, Greece.

    Education: Diploma in Chemical Engineering, 1984, National Technical University of Athens; Ph.D. in Polymeric Liquid Crystals, 1992, National Technical University of Athens.

    Professional experience: Researcher, NCSR «Demokritos», Greece (1995 - today); head of the Laboratory of Functional Nanomaterials of Organized Structure (2007- today); Research scientist, R&D dept., ARGO SA, Greece (1988-1995).

    Research interests mainly include synthetic and physicochemical aspects of dendritic polymers, liposomes and liquid crystals, specifically: studies of liposomal interactions; application of (multi)functional liposomes as drug carriers; (multi)functionalization of dendrimers and hyperbranched polymers and their study as prospected controlled release and targeted drug delivery systems; functional dendrimers and hyperbranched polymers as gene delivery systems; hybrid organic/inorganic nanomaterials based on an environmentally friendly biomimetic processes; nano-hydroxyapatite/biopolymer porous 3D scaffolds of complex geometries; hybrid organic/inorganic nanomaterials based on dendritic polymers for water purification; biomimetic mineralization employing dendritic polymers; synthesis and characterization of polymeric, dendrimeric or hydrogen-bonded supramolecular liquid crystals.

    Publications: Co-author of 119 publications in peer-reviewed journals, of 2 book chapters and co-inventor of 4 international and of 6 Greek patents. Citations: 3875; excluding self citations: 3510. h-index: 33;(Source: Scopus, Jan 2018).
