Dr. Emmanuel Saridakis was born in Brussels in 1970. He obtained his BSc degree in Physics in 1991 and his PhD in Biophysics/Crystallography in 1995, both from the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, London, UK. He then worked as a post-doctoral Research Associate at the Biology Department of the University of Athens (1997-8), at Imperial College (1999-2002), at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, FORTH, Heraklion Crete (2002-3), at the School of Health and Prevention Sciences of the Higher Technical Education Institute (TEI) of Athens (2003-7) and at "Demokritos" (2006-7). He also obtained an MSc degree in the History and Philosophy of Science at the London School of Economics, University of London in 2000. In 2007 he was elected a Researcher D at the Laboratory of Supramolecular and Structural Chemistry of the Institute of Physical Chemistry at "Demokritos" and also appointed an Honorary Research Fellow at the Imperial College Faculty of Medicine. He was elected Researcher C in 2012. His main research interests are in the theory and methodology of the crystallisation of macromolecules (focussing on the use of phase diagrams, nucleation and automation) and in macromolecular crystallography.
