Dr Kyriakos Papadopoulos was born in 1955, in Kilkis, Greece and studied Chemistry from 1975 to 1981 at the University of Bonn in Germany, where he obtained his Diploma in Chemistry. He received his Ph.D. at the same University in 1985 under the supervision of Prof. D. Enders for studies on the Asymmetric Synthesis of Organic Compounds. In 1989, after four years working at the Polytechnic School of Aachen, he joined the Institute of Physical Chemistry at the National Centre for Scientific Research  “Demokritos” in Athens, where he is working as Researcher A'. His main research activities and interests are in the area of synthesis of novel luminescent organic materials and their application in the Analytical and Clinical Chemistry. He is also involved in photo- and radiochemiluminescent reactions of organic compounds and their application in the determination of pharmaceuticals or the irradiation dose of γ-ionizing sources.
