Kyriaki Papadokostaki was born in Heraklion-Crete, Greece (1956) and graduated from the Chemistry Department of the National University of Athens in 1979. At the same year, she earned a scholarship from NCSR “Demokritos”, where she worked as a post-graduate student under the supervision of Dr J. H. Petropoulos in the area of diffusion in polymers. She received her PhD in Chemistry from the University of Athens in 1986. From 1986 to 1995 she continued working at “Demokritos” as a collaborating researcher at the Institute of Nuclear Technology and Radiation Protection (in the framework of a European Research Project for the management and storage of radioactive waste) and at the Laboratory of Transport of Matter Phenomena in Polymers of the Institute of Physical Chemistry. Since 1995 she works as a staff Researcher at the Institute of Physical Chemistry. Her research interests include sorption and diffusion of micromolecules in polymeric materials; controlled release of drugs and other bioactive solutes from model systems; multicomponent transport in polymers; sorption and diffusion of ions in polymers and porous media; thermal characterization of polymers.
