    The Institute of Physical Chemistry actively participates in the establishment of the European Photocatalysis Federation and the coordination of the corresponding research activities in Greece.

     

     

    The 6th Summer School on Methods in Micro-Nanotechnology and Nanobiotechnology will be held in Athens, Greece September 13 - 17, 2010.  

    The Summer School is co-organized by the Institutes of Physical Chemistry, Microelectronics,  Radioisotopes & Radiodiagnostic Products and Materials Science,  NCSR Demokritos, in collaboration with the Foundation for Biomedical Research of the Academy of Athens.

    The Summer School  is co-sponsored by the project, Marie Curie ITN CYCLON  ( http://www.itn-cyclon.eu )  coordinated by the  Institute of Physical Chemistry.

            Dr. Ioannis G. Economou is the Research Director of the Molecular Thermodynamics and Modeling of Materials Laboratory at the National Center for Scientific Research “Demokritos” in Aghia Paraskevi, Greece, the largest state-owned research organization in the country. Dr. Economou holds a Diploma of Chemical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (1987) and a PhD in Chemical Engineering from The Johns Hopkins University, in Baltimore, USA (1992). He held post-doctoral positions at Delft University of Technology in The Netherlands and at Exxon Research & Engineering Company, in USA. He has been a Research Fellow at the University College, London, UK, at Princeton University, USA and a Visiting Professor at the Technical University of Denmark. He has consulted extensively for major oil and chemical companies. Currently, he holds visiting professorships at the American College of Greece, Graduate School and an adjunct professorship at the Open University of Greece.  He has supervised 9 Ph.D. theses, 5 post-docs and numerous M.Sc. students.  He has published more than 90 research articles in leading journals in Chemical Engineering, Physical Chemistry and Polymer Science. He has given more than 50 invited lectures in academic and industrial institutions and more than 120 conference presentations in Europe, North America and Asia.  He is the Chairman of the Working Party on Thermodynamics and Transport Properties of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering.
