Theodoros Triantis studied Chemical Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens where in 2002 he obtained his doctorate under the supervision of Dr. K. Papadopoulos in NCSR “Demokritos”. His thesis concerned the study of photo- and radio- chemiluminescence reactions of azaromatic compounds and their use in analytical chemistry and chemical dosimetry. For the next two years he worked at NCSR Demokritos as a postdoctoral fellow on the development of suitable analytical methods based on fluorescence and chemiluminescence techniques and their application in bioanalytical detections using biotinylated labels. Since 2005, he has joined the group of Dr. A. Hiskia at Physical Chemistry Institute of NCSR “Demokritos” as a Research Associate. During that period he has visited the Radiation Laboratory at the University of Notre Dame, USA, getting experience in transient absorption techniques as well as the Department of Biochemistry and Pharmacy, Åbo Akademi University, Turku, Finland getting training in advanced analytical techniques (HPLC-MS-MS). His current research interests mainly include photocatalysis based on the use of polyoxometalates and semiconducting oxides covering aspects of (i) development, characterization and photocatalytic properties of multilayer films based mainly on polyoxometalates and polymers, (ii) study of the reaction mechanisms for the photocatalytic degradation of selected organic pollutants (e.g. pesticides, cyanotoxins etc.) and (iii) synthesis of metal nanoparticles employing photocatalytic processes. He is also activated in environmental analysis using advanced analytical techniques such as HS-SPME-GC/MS, SPE-HPLC-MS/MS etc. Dr. T. Triantis is the co-author of more than 35 articles in peer-reviewed journals and of three book chapters. During his 10-years research activity, he has been involved in about 15 European and National research projects.
