    The Institute of Physical Chemistry actively participates in the establishment of the European Photocatalysis Federation and the coordination of the corresponding research activities in Greece.

     

     

    The 6th Summer School on Methods in Micro-Nanotechnology and Nanobiotechnology will be held in Athens, Greece September 13 - 17, 2010.  

    The Summer School is co-organized by the Institutes of Physical Chemistry, Microelectronics,  Radioisotopes & Radiodiagnostic Products and Materials Science,  NCSR Demokritos, in collaboration with the Foundation for Biomedical Research of the Academy of Athens.

    The Summer School  is co-sponsored by the project, Marie Curie ITN CYCLON  ( http://www.itn-cyclon.eu )  coordinated by the  Institute of Physical Chemistry.

    STUDIES - WORKING EXPERIENCE

    1981:   Graduation from the Department of Chemistry, University of Athens.

    1989:  Doctor's Degree from the University of Athens. The PhD Thesis was performed at NCSR "DEMOKRITOS", Institute of Physical Chemistry, Laboratory of Catalytic - Photocatalytic Processes (Solar Energy-Environment), under the supervision of Dr. E. Papaconstantinou.

    1983-1995: General Chemical State Laboratory (accepted as analyst in 1983, after examination).

    1995-2001: Researcher Rank C, NCSR "Demokritos", Institute of Physical Chemistry, Laboratory of Catalytic - Photocatalytic Processes (Solar Energy-Environment).

    2002-2006: Researcher Rank B, NCSR "Demokritos", Institute of Physical Chemistry, Laboratory of Catalytic - Photocatalytic Processes (Solar Energy-Environment).

    2006-today: Researcher Rank A, Research Director of the Laboratory of "Catalytic-Photocatalytic Processes (Solar Energy-Environment)" and Director of the "Environmental Analysis Lab", Institute of Physical Chemistry, NCSR "Demokritos"

     

     

    RESEARCH - WORKING ACTIVITIES

    1982-1989: Doctorate Dissertation entitled "Photocatalytic Oxidation of Organic Compounds by Polyoxometallates of W and Mo".  Among other items, photocatalytical reactions have been studied, for the photochemical utilization of solar energy, as well as for utilization against pollution.

    1983-1995: General Chemical State Laboratory (G.C.S.L.). Mainly experienced in laboratorial items such as Quality Control of Fuel, Foodstuff, Control of Environmental Pollution. On October of 1991 assigned with the organization of the "Pesticide Residues Laboratory" of the G.C.S.L, being experienced in pesticide residue analysis.

    1995-today: Institute of Physical Chemistry, NCSR "Demokritos". Involved in the areas of photocatalysis by polyoxometallates/semiconducting oxides, photocatalytic degradation of pollutants, photocatalytic synthesis of metal nanoparticles, method development for trace level organic and environmental analysis, investigation of the occurrence and fate of organic pollutants in the aquatic environment, investigation of processes in the aquatic environment.

    • ad hoc group for the methods of analysis of pesticide residues in foodstuff

    1998-today: Member of the International Association of the Environmental Analytical Chemistry (IAEAC)

    2004-2005 and 2009-2010: Member of the Research Committee of NCSR “Demokritos”.

    2002-2004: President of the Scientific Advising Council of Institute of Physical Chemistry of NCSR “Demokritos”.

    2007-2010: Secretariat of the Scientific Advising Council of Institute of Physical Chemistry of NCSR “Demokritos”.

    2007- today: Member of the National Water Council  

     

    OTHER ACTIVITIES

    • Has refereed scientific proposals for General Secretariat of Research and   Technology.

    • Has taught the lessons “Environmental Analytical Chemistry” in the post graduate school of the Institute of Physical Chemistry, NCSR "Demokritos" and “Environmental Pollution. Advanced Oxidation Processes.” in the post graduate school “Environmental Chemistry, Technology and Management” of the Department of Chemistry, University of Athens.
    • Co-Editor of the up-coming special issue of the J. Hazardous Materials entitled “Nanotechnologies for the Monitoring and Treatment of Contaminated Water, Air and Soil”
